Entry requirements
The first step of the application process is to apply information online or to contact the Admissions Officer. Due to the high demand for places at King´s College Alicante, the admissions process is selective. Priority is given to a) pupils with brothers or sisters in the school, b) pupils with one or both English speaking parents, c) children of former King’s College pupils and d) families re-locating to Spain. Our policy throughout the admissions process is to allocate the appropriate placement for the pupil so that he/she may benefit fully from the education we offer. Teaching our pupils to speak English as soon as possible is an area of high priority at King´s College Alicante. It is through the spoken word that children´s reading, writing, speaking and listening skills improve therefore pupils may be required to take Induction English lessons to access all areas of the curriculum at an additional charge if deemed necessary by the Headteacher.
Registration Period:
King´s College Alicante is an international school and as such is open for admissions the whole year round. We are always delighted to meet with parents and show them around the school. However, due to increasing demand for places in the Infant Department, we are obliged to set aside certain times during the year specifically for our younger pupils, although we are flexible with international families moving to Alicante.
The procedure for admission to the school varies according to the age of the pupil:
Infant Department
Nursery & Reception (age 3 & 4)
In September of the calendar year when children reach the age of three or four (i.e. up to December 31st) they join Nursery or Reception Class. In order to do so, parents must complete and return the official application form to be requested from the school. An appointment will be then made for parents to visit the school and meet the admissions officer. We recommend applying early as places are limited. Children applying for Nursery and Reception places are not required to have any prior knowledge of English.
The Admissions Officer will inform all parents about the availability of places when the admissions procedure commences each year. If a place is available, an appointment will be made for parents to visit the school with their child to see the school´s educational psychologist or Head of Early Years.
Provided the evaluation is satisfactory, a place will be offered and official documentation should be supplied.
Key Stage 1
Year 1 & Year 2 (age 5 to 7)
Pupils applying for places in Year 1 & Year 2 should preferably have some knowledge of English. Pupils are assessed by the Head of the Primary or Deputy Head of Primary.
Parents should complete and return the official application form to be requested from the school and include all the necessary information including reports from the previous school. An appointment will be made for parents to visit the school and meet the admissions officer.If a place is available, an appointment will be made for parents to visit the school and for their child to see the Head of Primary or Deputy Head of Primary for a personal interview.
Provided the previous school reports and evaluations are satisfactory, a place will be offered and official documentation should be supplied.
Key Stage 2
Year 3 to Year 6 (age 7 to 11)
Pupils should have a good command of spoken and written English. New pupils applying for entry to the school take entrance tests in Mathematics / Non-verbal reasoning and English. Their past school reports are also taken into consideration. Parents should complete and return the official application form to be requested from the school and include all the necessary information.
If a place is available, an appointment will be made for parents to visit the school and for their child to see the Head of Primary or Deputy Head of Primary for a personal interview.
Provided the previous school reports and evaluations are satisfactory, a place will be offered and official documentation should be supplied.
Official Documentation (all applicants):
- Application Form
- A photocopy of either the birth certificate, identity card or passport
- Two passport size colour photographs
- A medical certificate indicating that child has no infectious diseases
- Photocopy of vaccination book
- End of year school reports for the last two years (where appropriate)
- A Photocopy of valid Visa for non EU students
Secondary Department (age 11 to 18)
Key Stage 3
Years 7-9 (age 11 to 14)
Pupils should have a good command of spoken and written English. New pupils applying for entry to the school take entrance tests in Mathematics / Non-verbal reasoning and English. Their past school reports are also taken into consideration. Parents should complete and return the official application form to be requested from the school and include all the necessary information.
If a place is available, an appointment will be made for parents to visit the school and for their child to see the Head of Secondary for interview and assessment.
Provided the previous school reports and evaluations are satisfactory, a place will be offered and official documentation should be supplied.
Key Stage 4
Years 10-11 (age 14 to 16)
Pupils should have a good command of spoken and written English. New pupils applying for entry to the school take entrance tests in Mathematics / Non-verbal reasoning and English. Their past school reports are also taken into consideration. Parents should complete and return the official application form to be requested from the school and include all the necessary information.
If a place is available, an appointment will be made for parents to visit the school and for their child to see the Head of Secondary for a personal interview.
Provided the previous school reports and evaluations are satisfactory, a place will be offered and official documentation should be supplied.
Pupils applying for admission to Year 11 must have studied the first year of the (I)GCSE course (Year 10) in the British system the year prior to their entry to King's College. They are not required to take entrance tests but great importance is given to past reports.
Key Stage 5
Sixth Form (age 16 to 18)
GCE A Levels
All students applying for entry to National Curriculum Year 12 to begin GCE A Level studies are required to attend a personal interview at the school with the Head of Secondary and their previous reports are taken into consideration. Parents should complete and return the official application form to be requested from the school and include all the necessary information.
Students applying from the British system are required to have a minimum number of 5 passes at (I)GCSE with C grade or above and grades A or B in the subjects they wish to take to A Level.
Provided the previous school reports and evaluations are satisfactory, a place will be offered and official documentation should be supplied.
