The mock examinations for Year 11 will take place from Monday 12th  December until Wednesday 21st December 2011. These exams are compulsory.

Mock examinations are an important part of the preparation that our Year 11 pupils undertake for their GCSE examinations in the summer.   We try to mimic the conditions of the real examination session in June and, where possible, staff set pupils the same number of papers as they will face in the  official examination  period.   As is  the  case  in the  real examinations in June, attendance is compulsory  and these examinations cannot be rescheduled.  If a pupil is ill on the day of the exam then they should attend  school as normal unless they are so ill that  they need to see a doctor.  If this is the case then they must provide a medical certificate to justify their absence.  It is important to note  that  fever, a common cold, allergies, menstrual pains and similar minor illnesses are not considered acceptable reasons by the examination boards to miss exams.  Even with a certificate from a doctor there is no guarantee that a student will be awarded a grade in a subject where they have missed one or more papers.

Teachers  will  mark  these  papers  using  mark  schemes  and  grade  boundaries  provided  by the examination boards and the results will be communicated to you in writing by end-January 2011. You are then invited to a parents’ meeting on Thursday 9th  February 2012 where you can meet with individual subject teachers  to discuss the results and agree on a plan of action to ensure your child achieves their potential in each subject.

I would   urge you to read the  enclosed  information  carefully and should  you have any questions whatsoever please do not hesitate to contact one of us for further advice or assistance.

Kind regards

Simon Wicks Director of Studies
