Set on the outskirts of Alicante, with easy communication to the city by road, the school is housed in a modern, purpose-built building with state-of-the-art facilities.

The school has grown considerably since it was first opened in 2001 and some of the recent additions to our site include a new secondary block, a new building for our early years children and new sports facilities including football, 5-a-side and basketball courts.

Directions to the School

ictOver the past several years the Board of Directors has recognised the importance of ICT and has supported the investment in technology across the school.

Our computing facilities are constantly expanding and our students now benefit from a computer in most primary classrooms, three fully equipped and dedicated ICT suites as well as a growing number of Interactive Whiteboards throughout the school.

The ICT suites themselves benefit from the most innovative teaching software currently available, allowing us to simultaneously demonstrate software techniques on all workstations, remotely monitor a student's progress from the teacher's machine and, if necessary, intervene and take control to assist a student who is having difficulties.

The school is now also proud to be able to offer staff and students access to 4 Interactive Whiteboards as well as 6 additional projectors some of which come equipped with built-in DVD players and speakers allowing educational programmes and movies to be shown in any room in the building.

ICT is now offered as a standalone subject to all ou students from Nursery, where they will typically develop basic computer skills such as mouse control, to Year 12 and 13 where students have the opportunity to study the Edexcel Applied ICT to A2 level. Many subject teachers also make use of the ICT facilities to support learning activities within the subject areas.

All students in Year 7 - 9 have two periods per week dedicated to ICT. During these lessons students have the opportunity to master professional software packages like Microsoft Office and Macromedia Studio. Students then have the opportunity to opt to continue their studies into Year 10 and 11 where four periods a week are dedicated to studying towards an IGCSE in ICT. Year 12 and 13 students undertaking the Edexcel GCE in Appied ICT have 7 ICT lessons per week where they are encouraged to examine the impat ICT has had and continues to have on society. At the same time they develop real and valuable practical IT skills that are instantly transferable to the worlds of both further and work.

labAll pupils take the three sciences (Chemistry, Biology and Physics) up to the age of 14, at which point they take Key Stage 3 tests. All pupils go on to take Dual Award Science up to IGCSE level.

The School has three brand-new, purpose built, science laboratories. There is also a preparation room and storage area. Each of the Laboratories has a computer with a printer and access to the Internet. the Chemistry and Biology laboratories also have digital projectors.

libraryThe Library is a well-stocked resource available to all our primary and secondary pupils. has a study area where pupils can have access to a bank of 10 computers. They all have Internet access for research purposes and each student in Secondary has a User Name and Password in order to keep their privacy. They also give them the opportunity of sharing documents with other students which pormotes the idea of working as a team.

A large investment was made in new stock for the Library last year: software, fiction and reference books. The new Bar Code Library System has made the classification and borrowing facilities easier and faster.

Books (both fiction and non fiction) have increased this year. The Secondary Library has now 2,805 books.

The University Courses section has already been completed with prospectuses of universities in Britain and Spain, especially useful for our Year 12 and 13 students, who can also have access to these universities web sites and even enroll on any British University by using an Internet service that our school provides.

The Library is open full time and students are welcome at both break times and after school for doing their homework, borrowing books, reading or researching.

sportsPhysical education forms an integral part of the curriculum at the school and is also a major area of extra curricular activity. It is considered a healthy way to develop pupils' physical competence and confidence. It also promotes physical skilfulness, physical development and knowledge of the body in action.

Physical education provides opportunities for pupils to be creative, competitive and to face up to different challenges as individuals and in groups and teams. It promotes positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles.

At the British School of Alicante, pupils have access to excellent sports facilities including: a 5-a-side grass football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts, tennis courts, a large multi-use indoor sports hall and an indoor gymnasium.
