Introduction and Aims

Year 7 pupils of Spanish may already have a basis of Spanish (particularly spoken and listening skills) or be ab initio pupils.    Pupils will start to deconstruct and reconstruct of units of language.  At the end of the year pupils are beginning to manipulate tenses and have increased confidence both orally and aurally.  Pupils develop their linguistic abilities through group and individual activities, presentations, games, situational play.  Language study falls broadly into the following categories:  Lexis, Grammar, Functions, Phonetics, Cultural Awareness.

Term 1

Units covered:

  • Talking about yourself
  • Asking questions, giving information
  • Expressing feelings
  • Describing location of things, places
  • Talking about home
  • Describing family and friends
  • Talking about clothes
  • Freetime
  • Shopping
  • Describing daily routines
  • Making arrangements

Term 2

Units covered:

  • Talking about likes and dislikes
  • Agreeing and disagreeing
  • Eating out
  • Describing health problems
  • Shopping
  • Describing the weather
  • Making suggestions
  • Making plans

Term 3

Units covered:

  • New time frames
  • Talking about the past connected to the present
  • Contrasting habitual present actions with past actions
  • Narrating personal experiences
  • Narrate specfic incidents in past
  • Cultural study of Spain
  • Discussing cultural differences
  • End of year exam preparation

 

Assessment Information

  1. Small tests every end of unit
  2. Continual oral assessment.
  3. End of term exams at the end of terms 1 and 2.
  4. Final end of year exam at the end of term 3.
  5. Pupils are assessed on effort as well as on attainment.

 

Other Information

An attempt is made in year 7 to use Spanish in real contexts and, where possible, use of the ICT facilities will be made.  There is an expectation that the pupils be exposed to Spanish when outside of the classroom and some homework modules will reflect this expectation.
