Geography

Introduction and Aims

Year 12 follow the Edexcel Geography B course to ensure that all pupils have the best chance of succeeding at their level, and to provide students with a mixture of traditional Geography and modern ideas.  The course follows a simple modular structure and this will enable students to resit sections of the course if necessary and lighten the burden of exams in June.  Decision making, fieldwork and interpreting geographical information are all important parts of the new course and students will use a rich range of resources from maps, videos, books, ICT and their own fieldwork.  The first exam sat in January is based on their own fieldwork and research so fieldwork is a vital componant of the course.  We are hoping to take students on a residential fieldcourse to the UK to support their learning.

Assessment Information

Students are continually assessed by their teacher.

Each week a homework is set and the marks are graded using AS grades.  Students must review and revise their classwork in their own time to ensure that they retain the information for exams.  The pass grades are from A to E.

Other Information

Please check the homework diary regularly for comments by the teacher, so as to follow your son or daughter's progress.  Encourage them to do extra work on their own for this course
