Introduction and Aims
A-Level history will allow pupils to learn historical skills, allowing them to begin to understand, interpret and analyse the past .The history will focus on source interpretation,analysis and key essay skills. Giving pupils the skills to pass the A-Level course while exploring interesting and relevant themes
Term 1
- Westward Expansion and the taming of the West (1840-1945): Students will study the annexation of Texas, war with Mexico and Native Americans
- Civil war and reconstruction (1861-1877): Students will study the causes and consequnces of the civil war, will focus on the devastated South and the booming North.
- Impact of Economic Expansion (1865-1917): Students will study the expansion of US industry and commerce.
Term 2
- Civil Rights (1895-1968): Students will study the position of Afro-Americans in 1900 and focus on their struggle for equal rights.
- Boom and Bust (1920-1941): Students will study the impact of war on American society, depression and the New Deal.
- USA rise as a world super power: Students will study the rise of American Imperialism, USA and the World Wars.
Term 3
- Social Developments: Students will study how society has changed throughout history.
Assessment Information
There will be constant assessment and feedback by the classroom teacher. There will be constant assessment using sourcework and essay questions. After each topic there will be an assessment in the form of exam, essays or source work anaylsis and interpretation.
Other Information
Pupils will be responsible for school textbooks which will be provided for homework and revison purposes.
